As of April 1, 2021, all international visitors over the age of 15 to the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico (i.e. Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum) must pay a tourism tax. The permit is issued by the state Mexican authorities and is valid for the whole period of stay in Quintana Roo.
Beware of sites that appear to be official payment sites or that charge an additional fee to process your payment.
All you need to pay the Quintana Roo visiting tax is a valid email address and a credit card. You will receive the payment confirmation together with a Barcode to present to the authorities. Keep a print copy of your travel documents for a faster check out at Mexico’s ports of entry.
Groups of international travelers will also be able to pay for all members of their party in a single transaction, as long as each individual’s information is included on the VISITAX form. Separate receipts will be provided for each person. Click here for an article on the tax.
